According to Avicenna, saffron is effective in treating malignant wounds, adhesions, obstructions and uterine stiffness. Especially when used with wax or egg yolk with twice as much olive oil.
In traditional medicine, saffron is claimed to facilitate menstruation and is recommended in case of amenorrhea as well as in the treatment of spasmodic pain and can be used to stimulate abortion. Daily consumption of saffron decoction- two grams of saffron in one liter of boiling water for half an hour- in the form of syrup is recommended in case of menstrual irregularities.
In modern medicine, saffron and crocin have shown properties in reducing menstrual complications. In addition, saffron improves the mental and physiological condition of menopause women.
